Groups

Are you ready to make the most of your retirement? Then, you’ve come to the right place.

Below are a range of recreational activities designed to enhance your physical, mental and social wellbeing. And the best part is, you can join as many groups as you desire!

Simply explore the groups below to discover more detailed information about each activity. If you're interested in joining, just reach out to the Group Coordinator.

Following the official closure of Retire Active SA in March 2025, these groups will continue to operate in various forms, such as Incorporated Associations, informal groups, or through mergers with other associations. You are welcome to join any of the groups listed below and remain an active participant well into the future.

General Groups

  • The Bushwalkers is one of South Australia’s largest walking groups, boasting over 450 active members. This non-profit, voluntary organisation offers more than 20 day walks each calendar month in and around Adelaide.  These walks vary from very easy 2-3 hour strolls to more demanding 5-6 hour hikes.

Each year the Bushwalkers organise a variety of camps locally, interstate and overseas. These camps help members complete long distance trails like the Heysen Trail.

Our club encourages members to contribute to local conservation efforts by supporting groups like Friends of Sturt Gorge and Belair NP during their weeding days, Alpana cactus kill and maintenance of long distance trails like The Heysen Trail.

Every walk and camp is organised by our dedicated members. Join us to explore vibrant adventures and discover life’s possibilities.

  • For those who enjoy shorter walks than what Bushwalkers currently offer, our D4 Coffee Walkers group is perfect.

This group is part of the Retire Active SA Bushwalker Incorporated and will operate under the D grade guidelines managed by the D walk coordinators. The D4 Coffee Walkers Group will usually walk 4km every Tuesday. Their walks will be additional to the current D walk program.

Inspired by long-time Bushwalker Colleen Ingram who noticed many members preferred a brief stroll, these walks last about an hour. They're ideal for anyone who enjoys a walk with the promise of café refreshments at the end.

Join us and explore interesting places with a friendly and supportive group.
